Yellow Arrow provides dynamic and engaging student leadership training for students either preparing to become student leaders or for those who are already in their role.

Our facilitators have years of experience as teachers in primary and secondary schools, camp leaders (in Australia and overseas) and program managers in the NFP sector.

We understand the challenges faced by student leadership coordinators, Head of Students, student council coordinators and design engaging programs and activities so you can focus on developing rapport with your students (rather than having to create all the content!)

Our student leadership programs are designed to be educational, experiential and transformative.

This is because we believe leadership is caught not taught. We have school leadership activities in the form of a 90 minute workshop or a full day student leadership training program. These workshops are highly dynamic and interactive. As much as possible we like to get our participants sharing and problem solving.

Project Santiago is a comprehensive student leadership program for year 10 students. We have developed a curriculum so that you have everything you need to run a leadership elective subject in your school. Many schools use this program to develop a leadership pipeline to train their senior school captains.

We regularly host interschool Student Leadership Conference events where student leaders and teachers across Victoria can meet and connect. The activities are fun, experiential and educational!

The Online Escape Room is an hour long experiential learning activity for students. They are challenged to think laterally and solve problems as a team. The activity is then followed by a facilitated discussion led by a member of the Yellow Arrow team!

We run Professional Learning for teachers in leadership roles. We have online and in-person public events throughout the year that teachers can book in for, and also offer in-school professional development catered to your school’s needs. These are designed to have practical takeaways and frameworks that can be instantly applied in the classroom. We make every effort to foster a positive culture enabling participants to learn from each other also.

In summary, we run leadership workshops for high school students and teachers and design them based on a discussion with you about what you are trying to achieve.

We support Student Leadership Coordinators to develop and connect with other teachers in the same or similar role. Often Student Leadership Coordinators, Head of Students and other teachers responsible for the leadership development of students are solo agents in their school. Our online community is a place to share resources, ask questions and develop as program leaders.

On Friday we spent the day with the year 10 youth ministry students at @carolinechisholmcatholiccoll. The day was focused around equipping them to be able to run their own leadership day for their younger peers. They were given the opportunity to reflect on their personal leadership style and explore how best to work together as a team. As with all our workshops, it was very hands on, with many opportunities for students to step up and challenge themselves.

There are so many benefits that come from bringing students from brother/sister schools together. Yesterday, we spent the day with the year 10 leaders from @materchristicollege and @stjosephsferntreegully. The students were tasked with planning a community event day that would bring all of the students from their respective year levels together. We helped break them into smaller planning groups, with each one responsible for a different aspect of the event. We also played a few hands on problem solving activities to challenge their ability to work together and communicate as a team.

It was a fun and productive day! Here is some feedback from the students:

"I enjoyed that there was a large variety of games rather than content heavy/productive sessions. It was easier to get the most work done in short bursts of time."

Last Thursday we had the privilege of spending the day with 80 grade 6 student leaders from six Jesuit schools across Australia as part of the Ignatian Youth Conference. The day was very hands-on, with students having an opportunity to learn about their personal leadership style, how to communicate effectively, how to work in a team and what they need (and how they react) when they are placed in pressured situations. We were very impressed with the students, and loved hearing about their vision for the future. Here is some feedback from the students:

We visited @fairhills_high_school_knox on Tuesday to spend the morning with the student leadership team (and the school dog Scout!). The students learned more about their personal leadership style and reflected on how they can best work together as a team. We spent a few hours with the @frankstonhighschool Sport Leaders recently to help them explore their unique leadership style and build their teamwork skills. Our director Felicity presented for 80 teachers at a conference last Friday. The participants were all teachers of VCE Vocational Major and/or Victorian Pathways Certificate. We visited @carolinechisholmcatholiccoll recently to work with the senior and junior student leaders. We started by helping the senior students to reflect on their leadership values and consider how they can work effectively with the junior students this year. Then with the juniors we focused on the importance of being effective communicators and expanding your comfort zone. We explained the origins of our company name and encouraged the students to find and follow their own "yellow arrows". Here is some feedback from the students:

We started the year with a bang by facilitating a leadership training day for 100 student leaders at @clonardcollege! We always love working with the Clonard students and this workshop was no exception. Over the course of the day the student leaders explored the theme of their "leadership journey". They reflected on their inner leadership compass, shaped their "destination", explored how to work as a team and set some tangible goals. Here is some feedback from the students:

Over the course of the day they exchanged ideas about what works well at their respective schools, reflected on what kind of impact they want to make in their role and presented their action ideas to a panel of staff. It was great to spend the day with the year 12 student leaders at @clonardcollege last month. The school principal, Luci Quinn, led the students through a strategy planning session where she sought their input on the priorities for the next strategic plan. We brainstormed different potential scenarios that the students might encounter in their roles and got stuck into some planning and preparation for 2025. We will be returning to the school to work with the full student leadership team early next year and the year 12s will lead a planning and bonding session for their portfolio groups.

She spoke about our "inner critic" and how we can better understand it and develop tools to be kind to ourselves. This topic is central to leadership as it is something that can hold people back from stepping out of their comfort zone. It was inspiring to hear about all the amazing projects students are leading across the state, from building mini golf courses for the local special school to helping chronicle the stories of residents at the local retirement home.

We recently spent an amazing day with the students at @swinburne_sssc, diving into leadership development and exploring how to make a difference both in and out of school. The students engaged in a variety of activities, from understanding different leadership styles to learning how to effectively run meetings.

We visited @carolinechisholmcatholiccoll yesterday to spend the day with the year 10 youth ministry students. The students reflected on their personal leadership style, engaged in team building activities and brainstormed ways to make a meaningful difference in their school and community. 💡“Primary School Takeover” - Spend the morning providing high school student leaders with tangible leadership skills, then help them prepare and deliver a leadership workshop for students from the local primary school in the afternoon.

💡“Your students lead the day” - We will meet with your core student leaders ahead of time and support them to choose the key topics and plan the key activities. Then on the day our facilitators will be there to support and debrief, tying together leadership lessons while your students take the lead.

💡“Plan a specific initiative” - Have an event in your calendar that your student leaders are responsible for running? Over the course of this workshop, we will support your students to plan out exactly how that event will run, provide them with tangible skills and feedback to support them so that the event will run smoothly!

💡“Target real problems in your school” - Prior to this workshop, we will support you to develop a survey for your wider student body to discover and respond to your school community’s actual needs. Over the course of the day, your student leaders will follow a design thinking process to develop initiatives that target the key problem areas identified in your student survey.

Do your students have big ideas but struggle to take action? The necessary skills required to go from ideation to action are complex and require time to develop. Students need multiple opportunities to build their confidence and grow as a leader. There isn't enough time in a lunchtime SRC meeting to fit in the necessary formation and training to adequately prepare all the student leaders for their roles. We visited @stjosephsferntreegully last week to spend the day with student leaders from year 9 and 10 at St Joe's and @materchristicollege. We focused on exploring your personal leadership style, better understanding how to collaborate with others and building trust as a leader. The students will come back together later in the year to explore how to take effective action.

We visited @millparksecondarycollege to work with the student leaders for the second time this year. The day was focused around how to take effective action and we discussed the importance of understanding what problem you are solving, involving the people affected by that problem in the design process and considering how best to pitch your idea to those who will need to approve it. It was a great day and lots of fun as always!
